Annual tipping campaign

R(h)ine tipping: together against tipping pollution!

Take part in our big butt collection campaign and raise awareness for protecting our environment

Every spring we organize a big butt collection campaign called R(h)ine Kippen. The campaign lasts a week and serves as a prelude to the big campaign day on September 9th. The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness of the harmful effects on our environment of carelessly throwing away cigarette butts. This year, the campaign will take place from May 3rd - 10th, 2024.

Did you know that cigarette butts are one of the most common types of litter found on our riverbanks? Unfortunately, they're not just an aesthetic issue - they also pose a significant environmental hazard. Every single butt contains numerous toxic chemicals that can be released upon contact with water, and a significant one represent a burden on our bodies of water and their inhabitants.

During our fundraiser, we invite everyone to join us and actively contribute to protecting our rivers. With this action, we not only want to remove the visible traces of careless behavior, but also raise awareness of the need for responsible handling of cigarette butts. It would also help if pocket ashtrays were offered directly at the usual cigarette outlets or you just don't even start. ;-)

In some cities we also set up collection columns to show how many cigarette butts you can collect in a short time. So far, collections have been made around the Rhine and Moselle. In the long term, however, the campaign should also take place on many other rivers and cities.

If you also want to organize an action in the coming year, then simply contact your river officer. We appreciate your support.

Together we can make a difference!
